Margarita’s work emerges from a place of collision. Rooted in the borderlands between Mexican heritage and the Texan landscape, her practice carries the friction of two cultures that do not resolve into harmony, but instead press constantly against one another.
Colour is charged. Saturated hues, rhythmic repetition and symbolic forms operate with the urgency of lived experience rather than aesthetic preference. The work moves between celebration and strain, vibrancy and weight, without simplifying the complexity of existing between identities.
Drawing from the visual language of Mexican muralism — its scale, symbolism and insistence on presence — Margarita filters these influences through a contemporary sensibility that resists nostalgia. Geometry interrupts gesture. Pattern disrupts memory. What remains is a tactile, emotionally direct body of work that is grounded and unmistakably its own.
Biography is not presented as narrative, but as condition. The lived reality of navigating inherited culture alongside modern experience is embedded in every mark, giving the work a weight that cannot be imitated or accelerated.
Working under a pseudonym allows the work to stand without distraction — encountered as expression rather than explanation. What matters is not who Margarita is in public, but what the work communicates when allowed to speak.
Electric Art Gallery presents Margarita’s work because it carries something increasingly rare: cultural depth without sentimentality, identity without performance, and emotion without spectacle. Selected works are available as limited editions via enquiry.
